The best places to Eat Out to Help Out in Leicestershire!

I bloody love eating out, so when Rishi encouraged us to eat out more to help the economy recover, I didn’t need much encouragement!

In case you’ve been living under a rock, the Government’s new ‘Eat Out to Help Out’ scheme runs throughout August and gives you 50% off when you eat in at a restaurant on Monday, Tuesdays and Wednesdays (up to a value of £10 per person).

To find out which restaurants near you are taking part, click here. (It’s a website where you enter your postcode and a list of all of the restaurants within a 5 mile radius of your house that are taking part pop up.)

I consider myself as a bit of an Eating Out expert (purely because I do it so often) so I thought I’d pull together a list of some of the best restaurants in Leicestershire that you should check out – and they are all part of the Eat Out to Help Out Scheme too!

The Pear Tree, Woodhouse Eaves

Known locally as Gino’s, The Pear Tree in Woodhouse Eaves deliver stunning food in a stylish and relaxed atmosphere. The service is brilliant too and you’ll be welcomed in as if you’re a member of the family!

My personal favourite is the lasagne – hands down the best I’ve ever eaten! Paired with the triple cooked chips, the special green dip and finishing off with the actually insane profiteroles.

If you visit on a Friday or Saturday, be sure to sit outside in the lounge to be treated to fantastic food and live music! You can even pop back on a Sunday for a full roast too!

Pub Grub

The Swan Inn, Mountsorrel

In a world of swanky gastro pubs and Wetherspoon-esque establishments, enter The Swan Inn, a rare gem in the heart of Leicestershire serving traditional ales and fresh, locally sourced food (which tastes incredible!)

The Swan are currently offering a 3 course, a-la-carte menu for £20 (on Eat Out to Help Out thats £10 per person!) with offerings such as steak, garlic mushrooms and chocolate orange brownies (yum).

They also offer themed food nights and it is worth following them on Facebook to ensure you’re up to date with the latest offerings. You might even spot a celebrity, with Noel Fielding recently popping in for a pint!

Swatlands, Oadby

I wish I lived nearer to this incredible Indian restaurant! I mean, its an Indian restaurant with a gin bar above it – what more could you want?!

The food is absolutely glorious, and one thing that sets Swatlands aside from the rest is that every dish that they serve can be made in a variety of strengths and you can specify the level of spice you are after! This is perfect for me, as I love a Tikka Masala but sometimes fancy a little more spice. (I’m also anti-coriander and worry that other dishes will contain the devil herb!)

Be sure to try the Manchurian Chicken and the cheese and chilli naan bread (the best I’ve ever eaten by FAR). The mogo chips are excellent too!

Cafés and Bakeries

Olivia’s Bakery, Loughborough

Olivia’s bakery is in Loughborough town centre which makes it perfect for those who work in town to grab breakfast and lunch. If you don’t follow them on Instagram, seriously, what are you doing? They literally make me salivate with every post!

Follow here for pictures of the greatest croissants you will ever see:

I mean seriously….

The bread and baked goods they serve are all baked freshly on site and they serve seriously good coffee. The best part? They are dog friendly! Which is a lovely added bonus for a town centre bakery.
