I feel like recently I’ve become and absolute expert in pizzas. Especially ones that deliver to the village that I live in. And whilst a greasy takeaway pizza sometimes hits the spot, it doesn’t always satisfy my craving for a real pizza.
Enter Peter Pizza – established in 2013 in Leicestershire and on a mission to cure the injured name of pizza by providing authentic Neapolitan pizzas locally. During the COVID-19 outbreak, they have also started ‘Peter in the Pan’ – a chance to make your very own Peter Pizza from home. I obviously jumped at the chance.
I ordered the kit on Thursday and it arrived on Friday at around mid-day. The kit comes with pre-made sourdough and toppings to create and traditional Neapolitan margarita pizza. It also includes an instructions manual which is vaguely reminiscent of a well known Swedish furniture company!
So my boyfriend and I set about forming the dough into a pizza shape. We watched the video (from the linked QR code – fancy) and thought, how hard can it be? Turns out – HARD. We made such a HASH of flattening, spinning, pushing and stretching the dough into a pizza shape that we ended up using a rolling pin! Oh well – gives us room for improvement for the next time we order it (and there will definitely be a next time!)
The cooking process includes dry frying the pizza base in a pan (hence Peter in the Pan!), adding the toppings and then finishing in the oven.
I’m going to be honest, I’ve made pizza at home before so I thought it would be ‘quite good’ but (to quote Pam Shipman) Oh My Christ Mick! It was insane! Like, restaurant quality good! I loved this pizza so much that I immediately ordered for the following week and for the whole week I could be heard saying “I can’t get over how good the pizza was!”
You can order your own pizza box here (subject to postcode restrictions!) and costs £10 for a box that makes 2 pizzas! Peter Pizza also do a Nutella pizza (dreamy) and a date night box which includes wine/beers/soft drinks, a pizza kit, a garlic bread and a nutella pizza.
All in all I can’t sing the praises of Peter in a Pan enough – thank you for restoring my faith in pizza!
