I subscribed to Roccabox in April 2020 to give myself a little treat whilst in lockdown. It’s no secret that my skincare and beauty routine has historically been “I’ll grab a mascara from Tesco and use a bar of Dove soap” but something about turning 30 has made me want to change that up a bit and I thought subscription boxes might help in experiencing new brands and products.
If you are new to Roccabox, it is a subscription beauty box whereby you subscribe for £10.00 a month (+£3.95 p&p) and you are sent a box each month containing 5/6 beauty, skincare and haircare treats to trial. These range from being samples to full size products.
The theme of the box this month is ‘staycation’ and contains 7 (!) items with the total RRP of the items inside the box coming in at £47.98!
Elemis Peptide Plumping Pillow Facial (15ml, Travel Size, RRP: £18)
This product is noted as a ‘hydrating sleep mask’ which helps to plump the skin and fight signs of tired & dull skin. You apply it overnight and rinse off in the morning. It has a light, gel-like consistency and has a subtle, floral scent. My skin feels instantly softer on application and a little seems to go a long way with this! I’m excited to try this to see if it might be something that makes its way into my nighttime skincare routine.

Jurlique – Rosewater Balancing Mist (15ml, deluxe travel size, RRP: £10)
Jurlique isn’t a brand that I’ve heard of, neither is a ‘balancing mist’ as a product type. The mist is supposed to “leave your skin feeling hydrated, soothed and well-balanced whilst restoring a natural glow.”
Now, I am a fan of the boujee little frosted glass bottle that this comes in, and if you like the smell of rose, this smells absolutely divine. I’ve sprayed it on my face, and whilst the initial cooling sensation is pleasant, it has left a slight tacky feeling on my skin and I don’t think my skin looks like it has a ‘natural glow’ (although it is slightly dewy, perhaps because it is a bit damp!) The packaging also suggests that you can use this spray over makeup, but I’m not sure I’d feel confident in trying that. It is a nice product to try, but perhaps not right for me. I might use it in the ends of my hair though?

St Tropez Self Tan Express Bronzing Gel + Mitt
(35ml, Deluxe Travel Size, Full Size Mitt, RRP: £10.70)
I will always welcome a new tanning mitt, given than my current one should probably have seen the bin a long time ago!
Initially I was concerned when seeing a tanning gel in a beauty box. I have outrageously pale skin and I did worry that if I had randomly received a dark tanning product it may leave me looking excessively oompa loompa-y. However, this St Tropez develops more the longer that you leave it on and better still, you don’t need to leave it on over night as it develops in just 1-3 hours! Better still, the gel doesn’t have that ‘biscuity’ tan smell so I am looking forward to giving this a go over the bank holiday weekend!
Whilst this is great for me, if you don’t use self-tan you might be slightly disappointed with the inclusion of this product in a box.

Charles Worthington – Moisture Seal Hair Healer Mini Takeaway
(30ml, Travel size, RRP: £2.29)
Hallelujah! I don’t know about anyone else, but since I’ve not been able to go to the hairdressers (cause, lockdown!) my hair has been inSANELY dry! This product says it will leave your hair feeling 5x softer than usual! It is a leave in conditioner than you apply after your shower.
Firstly, I will say that this smells absolutely DIVINE – like actually being in a salon! I’ve not had chance to try it yet but I will come back to you when I have! I’m really pleased with this inclusion in the box and I feel like this is a product that can really suit everyone.

Nail HQ – Essentials Nail HQ Hardener (8ml, Full size, RRP: £6.99)
Somehow, my nails have grown and gotten a lot stronger in #lockdownlife all by themselves (despite me typing all day as part of my day job working from home!) However, this product will be useful when the colder weather sets back in (hopefully not for a long time!) and my nails start to crack and snag.
Whilst the product packaging does feel very basic, it is a staple item that I currently do not own (and something I would be unlikely to pick up when I’m out shopping – I’d get distracted by the prettier things/things I could eat!) so the inclusion of this in this month’s Roccabox is a welcome one. You can apply your nail varnish over the top of it so I’m hoping to see some good results!

Pact Coffee – Planalto Coffee (Sample, 1 cup)
This isn’t a true inclusion as one of the products in the box, moreover it is a free trial sample! Last month we got tea samples so it’s quite nice to get a coffee too! Whilst this is a lovely little treat, it would take a lot for me to subscribe to a coffee delivery as I go through phases of being really into coffee, then avoiding caffeine for a while. Still, a lovely added extra that I will definitely use!
Overall, I think this box was really well thought out, with a range of items that really hit the ‘staycation’ theme. I would definitely say that this box is worth the £10.00 (+£3.95) investment and I will use most, if not all, of the items included.
